Going to School with Autonomy

The first Cycle of Meetings of the Institute for Mobility and Transport kicked off in November, with the aim of debating and educating for a new mobility culture, bringing together experts, decision-makers and planners. This cycle began with the event “Going to School with Autonomy”, dedicated to school mobility, which took place on November 15, 2023, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.

This meeting focused on the autonomy of children and young people on their daily journeys to and from school, and its impact on their emotional, cognitive and physical development.

Encouraging the autonomy of children and young people when traveling to and from school is crucial for forming healthy habits, promoting public transport, promoting physical activity, environmental awareness and a sense of belonging to the community, providing environmental advantages and, above all, bringing benefits to the health and emotional and mental well-being of children and young people.

The meeting “Going to School with Autonomy” was held in partnership with the Project Group for Active Mobility, and included an Ideas and Good Practices Fair, where there was on opportunity to get to know some pioneering projects in our country, and to bring experts on the subject and other views on mobility at school age to the debate.
