UN Decade for Sustainable Transport (2026-2035)
Call for Impact to Center Equity and Inclusion
The National Strategy for Active Mobility has endorsed the Impact Call for Centering Equity and Inclusion, which aims to promote the active participation of women and marginalized groups in sustainable transport policies and strategies that will be implemented during the United Nations Decade for Sustainable Transport. This call emphasizes the importance of integrating social justice and inclusion as essential pillars for building more equitable and accessible mobility systems.
The United Nations Decade for Sustainable Transport is a global initiative of the United Nations, with the aim of transforming the transport sector, making it environmentally sustainable, socially just and economically efficient. This Decade also aims to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting more inclusive and resilient mobility systems.
The Impact Call outlines ten strategic objectives to create transport systems that work for everyone, regardless of gender, age, ability or social status:
- Institutionalise gender equity, mandate gender mainstreaming in all governance and vocational training in the transport sector.
- Ensure equitable and affordable access to transport by removing physical and invisible barriers, especially in low-income or rural areas.
- Recognise the mobility of care, promoting care infrastructure and inclusive mobility for all.
- Ensure safety in transport by recognising safety as a fundamental right and implementing policies that combat gender-based discrimination.
- Promote fair and decent jobs for transport workers, with fair wages and adequate working conditions.
- Build climate-resilient transport systems while protecting communities that rely on public transport.
- Promote female leadership and decision-making in the transportation sector.
- Use digitalization and gender-disaggregated data to support inclusive, evidence-based transport planning.
- Involve marginalised voices in all phases of the planning, implementation and evaluation of mobility projects.
- Ensure dedicated funding for transport programmes that promote gender equality and social inclusion.
To achieve truly sustainable transport, it is essential that active mobility is inclusive, equitable and focused on the needs of all citizens. ENMA reaffirms its commitment to inclusive mobility and building a future where transport not only meets environmental needs, but also social ones, promoting justice and equity for all, with dignity and safety.
