Walk21 Portugal – Everybody Walks

Portugal hosted the 24th edition of the Walk21 Conference, the world’s most important conference dedicated to walking, in Lisbon at ISCTE – the University Institute of Lisbon, from October 14 to 18, 2024.

The Walk21 Portugal conference was organized by the Institute of Mobility and Transport, on behalf of the Government of the Portuguese Republic, with the collaboration of the Walk21 Foundation, the Project Group for Active Mobility, in partnership with the City of Lisbon, and adopted the motto of the National Walking Strategy “Everybody Walks”.

It was 4 days where more than 530 experts and enthusiasts, from 61 different countries, shared ideas and knowledge on how to develop and implement walking policies and programs that promote pedestrian communities, safety streets, greater community participation and the enhancement of walking.

During these days, participants had the opportunity to attend training sessions, workshops, learning labs, round tables, topical discussions, weetings, plenary sessions, poster presentations and to leverage synergies based on the main themes of the conference: inclusion, public space, the climate emergency and governance.

On the last day, there were technical visits, promoted by the municipalities of Braga, Cascais, Lisbon and Porto, which showed projects for transforming public spaces where the pedestrian is the central element.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the success of this event.
